Highley<br />Publication Date: March 13, 2017<br />Publisher: Entangled TEEN Crush</i><br />Outfielder Tristan Murrell has a problem. The shiny new sports complex in town has left her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.<br /><br />Tristan needs a miracle. <div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I knew I was going to like this book by that first sentence. I am a tomboy at heart and love sports, so right away I knew that Alyssa and I were besties. That being said, I dove into this with big hopes. Alyssa's character was good and I loved her desire to work hard and help her father's batting cages work. She didn't even mind getting dirty messing with tools.... ehemmm.... yup, that is me! A girl after my own heart.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Tristan was a great character as well. A baseball player with skill, but was having a bit of a slump. The way Tristan and Alyssa meet was cute and made the story what it is. I didn't really appreciate the "let's date and not tell our friends" type of deal for it only to last like 2 days. But other than that I enjoyed the story and the characters. There were some definite swoony kisses and teenage angst mixed in for the win! What girl, no matter what her age, doesn't like some shirtless jocks and some testosterone filled sports? I sure do!! and this one was good, clean and a quick , fun read.</span></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At Holden Prep, the rich and powerful rule the school—and they’ll do just about anything to keep their dirty little secrets hidden.<br />
<br />
When former con artist Eleanor Ames’s homecoming date commits suicide, she’s positive there’s something more going on. The more questions she asks, though, the more she crosses paths with Miles Beckett. He’s sexy, mysterious, arrogant…and he’s asking all the same questions.<br />
<br />
Eleanor might not trust him—she doesn’t even like him—but they can’t keep their hands off of each other. Fighting the infuriating attraction is almost as hard as ignoring the fact that Miles isn’t telling her the truth…and that there’s a good chance he thinks she’s the killer.</div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><i>Summary from Goodreads:</i></span><br />
<br />
<i>Elena Rosales has busted her ass to get into a good college. She’s the only one in her family ever to attend, and expectations are high. No pressure. But Elena’s got this one in the bag, because she’s as dependable as the molecules she studies, as reliable as the chemical reactions that comfort her in their predictability. Until they don’t.<br /><br />Elena has always wondered why her mother abandoned her on her first birthday. It’s not until she turns eighteen and her chemistry experiments go berserk that she learns the truth: Her mother wasn’t human, and the Fae are willing to harm those Elena loves if she doesn’t use her power over the elements to cure them of a deadly disease.<br /><br />Derek, Elena’s brooding neighbor, isn’t the friendliest guy, but he has access to an off-hours lab and is willing to help Elena create the antivirus. He has his own secrets to keep, and this business Elena is mixed up in could blow his cover. But when Elena and Derek get together, more than chemicals spark fire—and they soon discover just how complicated attraction can get when they find themselves on the other side of the portal, fighting for survival. Lives collide, and allegiance and love are tested, in Fates Divided.</i><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">My Review: </span><br />
<br />
First off, just let me say this: I am not a Fae fan. I do not like the usual pointy-eared, crazy colored hair, prankster type of Fae stories. I do not like the Fae world that is full of creepy trees, weird animals that talk and well... you get the idea. While I do enjoy a good fantasy book, there is just something about the Fae stories I have read that just don't grab me. So if you do like those kinds of books, this book is NOTHING like that! This.... this is what I would image my kind of Fae to be... Big, tall, gorgeous, and as arrogant as hell.. NOTHING like the "elf-like" image typically given the Fae. <br />
<br />
So... that being said, I really fell in love with all the main characters, and secondary characters. Derek and Elena are half Fae and half human, (a.k.a Halven) and the sparks fly from their first meeting. They both don't really know what they are so when their lives turn upside down from each other and their powers developing, it gets crazy quickly! Keen and Reese are such great background characters. Keen is always around, bossy, arrogant and yet still lovable all at once where Reese is that one roommate we all know and love. <br />
<br />
The best thing about this book is that there is not only magic, but SCIENTIFIC magic! That concept intrigued me to no end! Of course it is no hocus pocus, but having to deal with cells, chemistry and the changing of elements that got me fired up. Who knew I was this nerdy? Of course there is the romance type of Chemistry... yup lots of this stuff! The tension was huge from day one and grew to something significant as the story went on. This is a New Adult so there were some sexual situations but not graphic. So be aware! <br />
<br />
All in all, this book was exciting and did not disappoint me at all! It kept me up late at night and hindered my real life activities because I couldn't put it down! <br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Summary from Goodreads: </span><br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">In a world fueled by greed and corruption, where airships rule the skies and coal mines have been turned into prisons, Scarlett Moon has one goal: Survive. Being tough and looking out for herself is the only way to stay alive, but when her best friend, Rory, is arrested and returned to the mines, all of Scarlett’s carefully built walls threaten to crumble.<br /><br />After being rescued by an airship full of pirates, led by the sexy and irresistible Asher Kimura, Scarlett finds herself surrounded by cons and fugitives, and thrust into the middle of a coal-smuggling business. When they take her to Columbus, the one place she never wanted to set foot in again, she wants nothing more than to get away. And her discomfort only grows as she becomes increasingly drawn to Asher.<br /><br />But everything changes when she discovers there may be a way to rescue Rory. Enlisting the pirates' help, Scarlett sets out on a mission to save her friend, praying that her overwhelming attraction to Asher doesn’t mean the end to her freedom—in more ways than one.</span></i><br />
<br />
<br />
A futuristic steampunk?! Who knew? <br />
<br />
Just think of a world so far in the future, that it has reverted back to the dark ages of steam and coal. A place where there is only certain technology left, and any other is considered evil. People living on the streets in poverty where any minor violation can land you in the coal mines which could mean certain death! But what captured my attention the most was the word.. "Pirates"! Steampunk, drool worthy Pirates, and a dark dystopic time? YES! Yes! and YES! <br />
<br />
This was a heart pounding, thrilling read full of strong, beautiful but broken characters. I am not sure if Mary planned it this way, but when I got to know Scarlett a little, it reminded me of another Scarlett from a time when women were considered fragile...but she was strong, independent and stubborn. I loved this Scarlett from the first page, and even more as she grew. Oh and Asher! Did I not say there were some tasty pirates? Yes, this frustrating yet dashing Asher could save me in an airship any day!! The angst and tension between him and Scarlett was enough to drive me to bang my head against the wall. <br />
<br />
The secondary characters were just as entertaining and well developed. I can see so many other stories of these diverse characters progressing in other books to come (well, I hope so anyway)! I look forward to see what becomes of each one of them. <br />
<br />
I gave it 4 stars for great writing, exciting story, and characters I couldn't get enough of! <br />
<br />
I need more Scarlett and Asher!!<br />
<br />
<br />

My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1739177769">4 of 5 stars</a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Goodreads Summary: </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i> I had always been the invisible art student in high school. Passed by. Glossed over. Unnoticed. <br />Now I was Aria Watson… that girl.<br /><br />After one bad decision, and being labeled a slut, I was no longer unseen. I was the whore. The ignoramus. The tramp.<br />I would never be invisible again.<br /><br />Particularly to Levi Myers. He was the odd boy with the beautiful soul who accepted and understood the broken girl inside me.<br /><br />Falling in love wasn’t the plan. But how could I resist his promises of hope? Of forgiveness? Of a future I had stopped dreaming of?<br />We were shattered. We were scarred. We were something strange and beautiful.</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>We were two lost souls holding on to the only thing that could keep us together.</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="font-size: x-small;">Art – noun | [\ˈärt\] : The quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. </span></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="font-size: x-small;">"I think you're art". </span></i></b></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
When I first saw this on Audible, I jumped on it mainly because the cover is so beautiful and the preview of book touched me. I had never read anything from this author, so I thought I would give it a shot. When I realized this was about teen pregnancy, I wasn't so sure I wanted to read on something so touchy and figured there could be some explicit sex scenes. But kept on listening, I did! Soon I was swept away by Aria's and Levi's stories. It was written with alternating POV between the two of them... which I LOVE! I love it even more in audio format.<br />
<br />
One thing I noticed and enjoyed was the writing. The words had a comforting flow that I found easy to get wrapped up in, to get lost in the world she created. Even though her writing was simple, it was beautifully put together.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;"> <b>"We grew tired together, creating our own kind of art. We became the masterpieces of the loneliest souls. The colors in both of our eyes bled out, knowing that sometimes the most beautiful pieces of art were created from the darkest of souls."</b></span></i></div>
<br />
So many emotions were brought to the surface as Aria and Levi both had to face so many difficult decisions and situations brought on by bad judgement or just from what life brings. My heart broke, I laughed out loud, I wanted to scream with frustration and then cry my eyes out from it all. <br />
<br />
<b><div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="font-size: x-small;">“Maybe it wasn’t about fixing the broken hearts. </span></i></b></div>
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;"><div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Maybe it was about loving the broken pieces the way they were. </i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Maybe when someone you loved was hurting, all they needed was someone to hold their pinkie as a reminder that they weren’t alone.”</i></b></div>
</span></i></b><b><i></i></b><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><br /></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My favorite thing about this book was the real life issues Cherry addressed. There were so many valuable lessons to be learned... from being accountable for your actions, the seriousness of having sex, sacrificing or love or selflessness, to respecting others and their decisions. Also she touched on mental illnesses, death, life, bullying, childhood cancer, and birth. I was impressed with the way the characters grew throughout the story and was impressed with the way these difficult situations were finally handled.</div>
<br />
<br />
Last but not least... There was.. AIR GUITAR!! How can you not like a book with air guitar played by a violinist?<br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br />My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1662236469">4 of 5 stars</a><br /><br />Hello Andrew Buckley! Let me just say this.... I love me some werewolves! They have been one of my favorite supernatural creatures to read about. When I first received this request for this blog tour, I was a little hesitant because it was considered to be a middle-grade teen read, but Being a mother of teen boys, I was interested on this very different take on puberty. <br /><br />Collin's life as a 13-yr-old is pretty miserable. Abandoned by his parents and passed from family member to family member, he ends up living with his grumpy, mean grandmother who calls him names everyday. Not to mention the bullying he receives at school, being a loser seems to be his life. That is until he steals his grandfather's old car one night trying to run away, but only to wake not remembering the events of the night. Now he is having weird dreams, crazy hallucinations, smells drive him crazy, and blank spaces in his memories. Even with all the weirdness, he gets a kiss on the cheek by the girl he has been crushing on all year. But even she seems to be hiding something.... along with the strange town he has been living in. <br /><br />I can see this as a book a lot of teens, especially boys, could relate to and enjoy. There is a little of everything in this book from humor to action to a bit of romance. I am an action junkie and was satisfied with the way Buckley described details that weren't too graphic but exciting. Perfect for the age level involved. <br /><br />Thanks to Chapter by Chapter, for the opportunity to review and share this great read! I recommend this book to everyone because it has something for us all! <br /><br /><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/5259176-karen-russell">View all my reviews</a></span><br />

<b>My Review: </b>So to be completely honest I ran out of time to get to this book! (bad bad Karen!) I was given all 3 books of the series to read last week and I was soooo overshooting my ambitions and confidence in my reading skills and balancing real life. BLAH. Real life just doesn't want to let me just sit and read all day!! RUDE for sure! <span style="font-size: large;">BUT.... </span>(there is always a butt... I mean but!) I did make it through the first book <b>The Watcher. </b>I can tell you... I will be reading the rest of this series!! Voisin's writing was so captivating from the beginning. The characters were wonderful and I can't wait to dive into the next 2 books. I promise I will get to this book soon and when I do, I will post my full review on goodreads when it is done! Don't miss out on this great series! </div>

<br />
Fascinated with ancient civilizations, seventeen-year-old Mia Crawford dreams of becoming an archaeologist. She also dreams of wings—soft and silent like snow—and somebody trying to steal them.<br />
<br />
When a horrible creature appears out of thin air and attacks her, she knows Michael Fontaine is involved, though he claims to know nothing about it. Secretive and aloof, Michael evokes feelings in Mia that she doesn’t understand. Images of another time and place haunt her. She recognizes them—but not from any textbook.</div>
<div id="contents">
In search of the truth, Mia discovers a past life of forbidden love, jealousy and revenge that tore an angel from Heaven and sent her to an early grave. Now that her soul has returned, does she have a chance at loving that angel again? Or will an age-old nemesis destroy them both?<br />
<br />
Ancient history is only the beginning.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><span style="font-weight: 400;">This isn’t my Jack, who once looked at me like I was his world. The guy who’s occupied the better part of my mind for eight months.</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is Z, criminal hacker with a twisted agenda and an arsenal full of anger.</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Olivia’s spent the past year trying to get her life on track. New school. New friends. New attitude. But old flames die hard, and one look at Jack—the hacker who enlisted her into his life and his hacking ring, stole her heart, and then left her—and every memory, every moment, every </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">feeling</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> comes rushing back. But Jack’s not the only one resurfacing in Liv’s life.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><span style="font-weight: 400;">If there was any part of her that still wanted me, even a little, I’d never be able to let her go. But I couldn’t do that to her. She deserves better than a criminal like me.</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-weight: 400;">When a stalker hell-bent on scaring Liv and framing Jack enters Liv’s life, Jack and Liv will have to work together to find out who it is before someone gets hurt, or worse. But can Liv learn to trust Jack again, when he can’t—or won’t—give up his life of hacking for good?</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Olivia
He tilts my chin up so my eyes meet his, his thumb brushing lightly across my lips. I close my eyes. I know Z is trouble. I know that being with him is going to get me into trouble. I don’t care.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
At least at this moment, I don’t care.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite—break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Liv might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Liv and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Z
I can picture Liv’s face: wide-eyed, trusting. Her smooth lips that taste like strawberry Fanta.
It was just a kiss. That’s all. She’s just like any other girl.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Except that she’s not.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The people of Nelebek live in fear of persecution from the evil Morlet, who reigns with a dark and destructive magic. The kingdom’s only hope lies with the Order of the Krigers—twelve warriors with mysterious powers linked to magical weapons.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For over a century, Morlet has been annihilating the Order, picking them off one by one. Eleven Krigers have been hunted down, tortured, and imprisoned in his dungeon. Now, only one remains.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sixteen-year-old Kaia survives by keeping her head down and minding her own business. But when she finds herself in the middle of a public execution where the mysterious Morlet is in attendance, an odd compulsion she can’t resist comes over her.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Kaia looks into Morlet’s eyes.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Soon, an ancient power awakens and Kaia can no more blend into the scenery. Will she heed the call of the Krigers or will Morlet’s dark magic destroy the last of the Order?</div>

<b>Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a kickass heroine, a boy so hot he’ll make you shiver, and a falling-in-love story fit for the big screen. You’ll want to settle in and have the popcorn ready.</b><br />
<br />
After Mariely Hinojosa and Cabot Wheeler both break up with their significant others at the same party, Mariely sees a way to get even with both of their exes. Everyone knows that the best way to get over a breakup is a hookup—a fake hookup, that is. Three weeks, all fun, no strings, and definitely no heartbreak at the end.<br />
<br />
But somewhere between the sweet hand-holding and melt-your-mind kisses, their fake relationship starts to feel less like an act and more like the real thing…but Mariely’s a free-spirited girl from the other side of the tracks, and Cabot’s the hot trust-fund guy from the Hills.<br />
<br />
They’d never work for real…<br />

<span is="qowt-word-run" qowt-eid="E126" style="display: inline; text-align: start;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">What a great light read! Sometimes I just crave a book with so much life, character, and just young love... and this was exactly that. Getting caught up in a book that brings so much hope, getting caught up in dreams, and a sweet romance can lighten any day. Shellee Roberts did a great job! <br /><br />Mariely! What a beautiful name! It fit her perfectly too! Her character was different, but full of life and dreams. Her sense of style was spectacular to the point where I wanted a pencil skirt and heels too... and the red dress? PLEASE.... so perfect! So enough about her wardrobe, that was only part of what I loved about Mariely! She evolved beautifully from beginning to end. Taking chances, risks, and putting herself out there was difficult because she was so used to acting like someone else... someone safe. Only Cabot could bring her out of her safe zone. <br /><br />Oh and Cabot? Yup... swooon! The guy who is like crazy hot, with the crazy-witch girlfriend? Don't they usually have one of those? But who could resist the artsy-painter-rich-kid-with-a-Porche, with the deep blue eyes and Daddy issues? Count me out! Just my type! <br /><br />The idea of a fauxmance has been done before, but what guy wouldn't mind putting on that kind of performance?! Pretend to be in a relationship with a hot guy? At that age... you bet! I think I may have done that sort of thing once to get someone jealous when I was young, crazy and stupid! <br /><br />So this was a really fun read for me. I read it in one sitting and was left wanting more! I look forward to the next installment of Mariely and Cabot!! </span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">There are three things (besides her family) that Shellee loves more than Netflix: Dr. Pepper, OTPs, and book boyfriends (I’m looking at you, Gilbert Blythe).<br /><br />Shellee has been told that her life goal as a writer should be to win prestigious awards that will grant her literary immortality, but as an OG ‘shipper (like, seriously, Tad and Dixie--my first hardcore ship) all she really wants is to create two characters that people love so much they give them a cool mashup name.<br /><br />Shellee spends her days living the dream with her family in Austin, Texas--and by living the dream she means waking up at the crack of dawn to go to work, chauffeur, walk dogs, do dishes, and fold laundry. At night she gets down to to real business, basking in the warm, blue glow of her computer screen and bringing the stories in her head to life on the page...or watching Veronica and Logan fan videos on YouTube till 2am.<br /><br />Tomorrow she’s definitely going to kick that procrastination problem to the curb.<br /></span><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
This winter, siblings Ruairi and Dani Miller visit their ancestral homeland: the legendary Viking island of Yondersaay. Even with Granny Miller’s storytelling to pass the time, the pair manage to find trouble. In less than twenty-four hours of their arrival, Ruairi is mistaken for the lost Boy King of Denmark, kidnapped by Vikings, and scheduled to be sacrificed at sundown. Granny isn’t very pleased.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But when everyone except them goes Viking, the three turn to Granny’s epic tales of the legends of Yondersaay, The Gifts of Odin, and King Dudo the Mightily Impressive for clues. But not all stories end happily, and Ruari, Dani, and Granny will have to write their own happy ending.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The Princess Bride meets Vikings in this enchanted tale of high adventure, buried treasure, villainous treachery, violent ends, and – of course – true love. Aoife Lennon-Ritchie’s debut middle grade novel, THE EXTREMELY EPIC VIKING TALE OF YONDERSAAY, is a humorous and heartwarming story for readers ages 9+.</div>

<blockquote>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Lia Nautilus may be a Mermaid, but she’s never lived in the ocean. Ever since the infamous Little Mermaid unleashed a curse that stripped Mer of their immortality, war has ravaged the Seven Seas.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So Lia has grown up in a secret community of land-dwelling Mer hidden among Malibu’s seaside mansions. Her biggest problems are surviving P.E. and keeping her feelings for Clay Ericson in check. Sure, he’s gorgeous in that cocky, leather jacket sort of way and makes her feel like there’s a school of fish swimming in her stomach, but getting involved with a human could put Lia's entire community at risk. So it’s for the best that he’s dating that new girl, right?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That is, until Lia finds out she isn't the only one at school keeping a potentially deadly secret. And this new girl? Her eyes are dead set on Clay, who doesn't realize the danger he's in. If Lia hopes to save him, she’ll have to get closer to Clay than ever. Lia’s parents would totally flip if they found out she was falling for a human boy, but the more time she spends with Clay, the harder it is for Lia to deny her feelings. After making a horrible mistake, Lia will risk everything to stop Clay from falling in love with the wrong girl.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1612227722">4 of 5 stars</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>Summary:</i></b></span><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i><b>Tully isn’t alone in her skin. Whenever she touches someone, they feel everything she feels. All her ugliness. All her darkness. All her pain.<br />The only thing she wants is to be left alone—and to finally get out of her small Oregon town.<br /><br />But then she meets Chris. He’s everything she’s not. Light. Trusting. Innocent. And he wants Tully.<br /><br />Tully knows she should spare him the heartache of being with her. But when he touches her, she’s not sure she’ll have the strength to push him away...<br /><br />From the author of Every Ugly Word comes a poignant, emotionally raw story about the violence that plays out behind closed doors and the all-consuming passion of first love.</b></i><br />
<i><b><br /></b></i>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><i><b>“My feelings. Whenever anyone touches my hands they feel what I feel.”</b></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So dark really means dark... even for young adult books. I usually go for the easy reads when it comes to YA, so this was a lot more difficult to get through. I am torn as to if I would want my teens to read a book with abuse, drugs, and sex.... But there is a lot they could learn by reading a book like this. <br />
<br />
I was impressed by the character building. Tully (Tulip) builds walls around herself to keep everyone out. She has too many secrets and is damaged and broken to let people in. She has a supernatural way of letting her emotions slip to others unwillingly. She is afraid to let others see her and her dark home environment. <br />
<br />
Chris is the epitome of the typical all american boy, a great homelife, and guy who stays away from trouble. He is drawn in to Tully and falls for her even with her dark appearance, and mysterious personality. <br />
<br />
As their relationship grows, they learn valuable lessons in each other. They learn the value of trust, forgiveness, and love. It was a heart wrenching journey for both characters and I felt it right along with them. <br />
<br />
Even through the tough and darkness of this book, I would recommend this to older teens and young adults to make them aware of the problems teens face today. These situations are real, but we can come together to help. <br />
<br />
Thanks to Net-Galley for the chance to review this book.

Life in the Lucky Zone (The Zone #2)<br />
by Patricia B. Tighe<br />
Publication Date: April 5, 2016<br />
Publisher: Swoon Romance<br />
<br />
Seventeen-year-old Lindsey Taylor has been living a charmed life—always the lead in school plays, possessor of a healthy entourage and a hot boyfriend. But halfway through her junior year, the unthinkable happens. Her boyfriend dumps her. She screws up her audition for the spring play. And to top it all off, her theater teacher wants her to run lines with Trey Berger, a gamer guy who irritates her practically every time he opens his mouth. Lindsey needs to find some better luck and quick.<br />
<br />
Trey Berger can barely tolerate Lindsey Taylor. It’s bad enough that their best friends are dating and he has to see Lindsey at group hangouts. Now they have to rehearse together. Berger would rather do just about anything else, even chill with his grandmother, whose dementia has forced her to move in with his family.<br />
<div>
<br />
But as the semester continues, Berger discovers there’s more to Lindsey than the drama queen persona she puts on for everyone else’s benefit. And the person behind the mask might be someone he cares about. A lot. So what exactly is he going to do about it?<br />
<br />
And while Lindsey desperately tries to change her luck and heal from the breakup, she slowly realizes Berger has become her best friend. This video-game-playing boy makes her laugh. And holds her when she cries. Could he possibly become something more?<br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">My Review</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1568719885">4 of 5 stars</a><br />
<br />
After reading the first book in the series, I wasn't sure I was going to like this one because I felt like I already knew Berger and Lindsey. I wasn't sure I wanted to read more about this girl, who I felt was just not a nice person at all. But I figured there had to be reasons on why she was the way she was and I was willing to give this book a shot. I am so glad I did. <br />
<br />
I think we all have known someone like Lindsey... High maintenance, bossy, acts like she doesn't care what people think, needs everyone's attention... Well, I sure have. Deep down I have always known there are deep issues with people like this. They have their insecurities and feel as though they have to be a certain way to keep from getting hurt. In this book, Tighe really brings to light just how broken Lindsey is, not only that, but in Trey Berger as well. <br />
<br />
While the story line went along smoothly, I felt there were places where it just dragged on a little. But overall, I enjoyed the character building. There was a lot of growth in each of the characters, especially Lindsey, which I was hoping for. But the chemistry between Berger and Lindsey just grew and grew. It takes talent to bring such good feels to a budding relationship, feeling a kiss like you are experiencing it yourself, and have it be enough. <br />
<br />
I appreciate a good clean read like this one. One that I can pass along to others, especially young adults and teens knowing this is a great, wholesome, sweet teen romance. <br />

<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Excerpt </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
With a weird sensation in my gut, I set the tea on the TV stand and then awkwardly put both arms around her. She turned her face into my chest and gripped my flannel shirt in her fists. I held her shaking body tighter, which seemed to make her cry even harder.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well, this was fun. It looked like more comfort equaled more tears. Who knew? And why hadn’t that unnamed person ever told me? Jerk.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had no freaking idea what to do next. Apparently Rose and Claire were right. Lindsey was in a lot of pain. Should I say something? Pat her on the back? I went for the easiest thing I could think of. I moved one hand to the back of her head and just held on. Some kind of citrusy scent floated up from her hair, and I had to swallow the urge to sneeze.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It must have been three minutes, but it felt more like three days before she stopped shaking in my arms. Then she shifted, resting her cheek against my chest. Her breathing began to slow. She wasn’t falling asleep, was she? But no. She let go of my shirt and slid her arm around my torso. Holy moly. How long was I expected to stay in this position? I mean, she was soft and everything, so holding her was nice, but we were only friends. If this went on much longer, it was bound to get seriously awkward. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had to do something. I started running my hand up and down her back. “You asleep?” I whispered.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“No.” She lifted her head and yawned.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I chuckled. “But you were close.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She sighed. “Yeah, guess I was.” She straightened and pulled herself out of my arms.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“It’s okay.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Her green eyes looked huge against her blotchy face. “You’re an amazingly good person.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I tilted my head slowly from one side to the other. “Don’t say that.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Why not?”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Because if you think like that, then you probably won’t argue with me. And I’d miss our fights.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She smiled. “I promise to always fight with you.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Thank you.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Even though you’re amazingly good.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Shut up.”</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This time she actually laughed.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I smiled. Good, no awkwardness. We’d gone back to the way we were before. I showed her to the restroom, then helped her get her stuff together and walked her to the car.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She tossed her purse and books into the front passenger seat and lifted her head as though she were steeling herself for the drive home. She smiled up at me. “Thanks, Dragon Boy,” she whispered, and then kissed me on the cheek.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Um, okay. My face tingled where her lips had touched. I held on to the door while she climbed in and then waved as she drove off.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Nope, nothing different at all. Right.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b><u>My Review:</u></b></span></center>
<center>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span>I know this is just one book in a series, but I haven't had the chance to read the other books by different authors in this series. All I know is that I am a fan of Kelly Oram after reading her Cinder & Ella book. So... I jumped on the opportunity to review this one. I was not disappointed either! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I fell for Nate immediately! It was such a nice change to read it all through a male POV even though I was curious as to what was going through Jordan's head... like... ALL THE TIME! And triplets? Perfect! What young (old in my case) girls wouldn't love to read about 3 handsome, attractive, young freshmen guys starting college in the big city of NYC? Throw in some boy-ish antics, pop-culture references, music, laughter, an evil girlfriend, magical romance and you've got a great read on your hands! This book had me laughing one minute and cussing at the evil girlfriend the next. I loved it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Oram does such a great job building her characters whether they are the main ones or the side ones, but they all leave a place in my heart. She even makes the not-s0-nice-girlfriend a person you love to hate. They all grow throughout the book and become bigger and better. The romance was sweet and endearing. I was cheering for Jordan from the beginning because you could see how much Nate deserved so much better. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I look forward to reading the other books in the series.</div>

<strong>TEASER:</strong>
“So this is what a Pearl-approved guy looks like.” She shook her head once and cracked a smile. “She’s got good taste, I’ll give her that. You’re an odd mix of sexy and adorable. Don’t see that often.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I was a little taken aback by the compliment, if that’s even what it was. She may have just been stating what she considered to be fact. She laughed at my surprise and held out her hand to me. “Nice to meet you. I’m Jordan Kramer.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I’d been afraid of that. “You’re a girl.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Jordan laughed. “That’s what it says on my birth certificate, but I’m really glad you were able to figure it out without needing to read it.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Nope. I definitely didn’t need that.<br />
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong>TEASER:</strong>
I handed Jordan the electric guitar that I’ve had since I was twelve, and laughed when her eyes got really big. “You play the electric guitar, too?”
“Music major,” I teased, picking up my keyboard. “I play this, too. A little. And the bass guitar.”
“Awesome.” She examined the electric guitar with awe.
“Why do you seem so surprised?”
She looked at me as if the answer to that question should be obvious. “Hello. Have you met yourself? You with an acoustic guitar singing soft songs around a campfire or in a coffee house makes perfect sense. But I can’t picture you up on a stage, jamming on your electric guitar like a rock star.” She studied me a moment, then shook her head. “You’ll have to play for me, or I’m not going to believe it.”</div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>Summary: A reluctant vampire hunter, stalking New York City as only a scorned bride can.</i></b></span><br />
<br /><i><b>Elle Dupree has her life all figured out: first a wedding, then her Ph.D., then swank faculty parties where she’ll serve wine and cheese and introduce people to her husband the lawyer.<br /><br />But those plans disintegrate when she walks in on a vampire sucking the blood from her fiancé, Greg. Horrified, she screams and runs—not away from the vampire, but toward it, brandishing a wooden letter opener.<br /><br />As she slams the improvised stake into the vampire’s heart, a team of black-clad men bursts into the apartment. Turning to face them, Elle realizes Greg’s body is gone—and her perfect life falls apart.</b></i><br />
<br /><br />
I was so excited to receive this book in audiobook to review! I am a huge fan of audiobooks and this one was a big hit! And as much as I love paranormal books, vampires are one of my favorites! <br />
<br />
Usually I read more YA books and tend to lean that way because of the content in adult books. I was so happy to see this book had very little of the *adult* content.. including sex scenes and foul language. But BEWARE!! This book is not for the faint of heart! This is a REAL vampire book! Lots of violence and a little gore... so that means...IT ROCKED!! I loved how it kept moving, keeping me waiting for the next attack or the newest twist to come about! <br />
<br />
Elle Dupree is a woman who has her life planned out until she walks in on a vampire feeding on her soon-to-be-husband. Elle is my kind of woman who takes action and becomes the vampire hunter out to get those who are responsible for taking away her life and the lives of others. I hope I would be able to step up and become that strong woman and not accept being the victim. <br />
<br />
The only issue I had in this was the male protagonist. I felt he was lacking in all the areas Elle was strong. I was disappointed in his actions and not fighting for what he wanted. I wanted to smack him around a little to get him to snap out of his cowardly stupor. To BE A MAN already! <br />
<br />
The Narrator did a great job adding the defining details to make the listen a great one. Laurel Schroeder was able to bring the characters to life and give them each their own voice adding depth that comes with a great narration. <br />
<br />
Thanks to Margo Bond Collins for the audio narration in exchange for an honest review.

<b style="font-size: x-large;"><i>Summary: </i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><br /></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Is it possible to outrun your past? Fifteen-year-old Edie Fraser and her mother, Sydney, have been trying to do just that for five years. Now, things have gone from bad to worse. Not only has Edie had to move to another new school she's in a different country. Sydney promises her that that this is their chance at a fresh start, and Edie does her best to adjust to life in London, England, despite being targeted by the school bully. But when Sydney goes out to work the night shift and doesn't come home, Edie is terrified that the past has finally caught up with them. </i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Alone in a strange country, Edie is afraid to call the police for fear that she'll be sent back to her abusive father. Determined to find her mother, but with no idea where to start, she must now face the most difficult decision of her life."</i></b></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i><br /></i></b></span>
<br />
I was very disappointed in this book all the way around. Yeah, I know, not a great review. (SADLY) But this was just too depressing and the characters weren't likable to me. The main character came off so bitchy and snotty, stole money, let someone else take the blame, and then it just got worse from there. I can see a character doing this, and during the book, watch her redeem herself, grow, progress... something!! But the romance seemed off and it all just rubbed me the wrong way. I think it was too short, and rushed together. Maybe if it were written longer, there would be more room for character development and growth. This had a great storyline, but I don't feel as though the author used it to it's full potential.

<b><i>And she’ll be with the boy she loves–who’s also her best friend. But the night Quin takes her Oath, everything changes.</i></b></div>

<br />
I ended up with a big fat DNF (Did Not Finish) on this book. Yeah, not cool I know, but I truly gave it my all. I even purchased the audiobook to help me understand what the freaking HELLO!! was going on! Unfortunately that only got me through half of the book before I wanted to throw it out the window! I didn't because I like my electronic devices and wanted to save those for another day. <br />
The summary sounded so great, so different and exciting! Maybe my brain is just so not functioning on this level, but I seriously couldn't grasp what was going on!! So maybe if my brain develops a new sort of way of thinking I will understand it. So... until then, I give up. <br />
<br />
Sorry my good readers!

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>Summary: </i></b></span><br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>In Marla Klein and Ivy Wilde’s world, teens are the gatekeepers of culture. A top fashion label employs sixteen-year-old Marla to dictate hot new clothing trends, while Ivy, a teen pop star, popularizes the garments that Marla approves. Both girls are pawns in a calculated but seductive system of corporate control, and both begin to question their world’s aggressive levels of consumption. </b></i></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b><br /></b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>Will their new “eco-chic” trend subversively resist and overturn the industry that controls every part of their lives? Smart, provocative, and entertaining, this thrilling page-turner for teens questions the cult like mentality of fame and fashion. Are you in or are you out?</b></i></div>
<br />
There are just too many thoughts going through my mind as I try to piece together what this read was about. It was a dystopian world built on worldly fame and trends in every media. Far-fetched? Yes. Maybe. Two girls take two different paths with their trendy knowledge and come out in complete opposite ends of this world where not being "In" is detrimental. <br />
<br />
This is not my usual type of Young Adult reading I usually like, but this was entertaining and a bit "out there". I am not a huge fan of fashion or trends so those of you who are will probably get a lot more satisfaction out of this read. The writing was great and some humor is around, so it kept me reading. <br />
<br />
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. <br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Seventeen-year-old Morgan Daniel has been in the witness protection program most of her life. But The Panteras have caught up with her and her younger brother. Her car is totaled, she's hurt, and the street gang is closing in when wolves with glowing eyes appear out of nowhere and chase away the killers. </i></div>
<i><div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>And that's just the first sign that Morgan and her brother have entered a hidden world filled with secrets...</i></div>

<i><br /></i></div>
<br />
I received an e-book copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. <br />
<br />
This book had so much potential and the premise was so intriguing, but I just struggled to get through it. I know this sounds harsh, but seriously, It took me months to keep up. I had to put it down and go back to it. <br />
<br />
Morgans character was just a little blah for me. She didn't seem to have much to her other than swooning over Jackson from minute one and wondering over and over again how this could be possible. She also complained a lot and had a bad attitude about her soon-to-be-released wolf. I understand the connection between her and Jackson but she just seemed too much of a victim. <br />
<br />
The thing I enjoyed about this book was the Shawnee Native American history the author included. Learning about their culture, beliefs and exploring this new world was basically what kept me reading. Another part that caught my interest was the other paranormal creatures included in the story like the were-panthers, the strange birds and other things that go bump in the night. It all had great background. It was just delivered in a way that just didn't keep me locked into the story. <br />
<br />
I was confused at times with the way the dialogs were put together. At times the characters, Morgan and Jackson, spoke as if they were from another time; more formal, like they were discussing history with a professor instead of with their peers. Then, they would switch immediately to flirty-banter that teenagers would use today. I think it needed better flow from one topic to the other, or less dictionary-type descriptions of the histories. <br />
<br />
As much as I love a good were-wolf book, this one just didn't capture my attention and keep me "in-for-the-long-haul". Because of that reason, I only gave it 2 out of 5 stars.
<br />

<strong>TEASER:</strong>
“So this is what a Pearl-approved guy looks like.” She shook her head once and cracked a smile. “She’s got good taste, I’ll give her that. You’re an odd mix of sexy and adorable. Don’t see that often.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I was a little taken aback by the compliment, if that’s even what it was. She may have just been stating what she considered to be fact. She laughed at my surprise and held out her hand to me. “Nice to meet you. I’m Jordan Kramer.”</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I’d been afraid of that. “You’re a girl.”</div>
<div>

<div>
Jordan laughed. “That’s what it says on my birth certificate, but I’m really glad you were able to figure it out without needing to read it.”</div>

Nope. I definitely didn’t need that.</div>

<strong>Guest Post: </strong>
<strong>The music and movies behind the story (Kelly's If We Were a Movie playlist)!</strong><br />
<br />
As I’ve said many times before, I’m one of those authors who needs peace and quiet to write. I’m a music junkie at heart, and if there is music playing, I will sing (and most likely dance) along. Fun times, but as you can imagine, not the most productive writing environment. So while I’m working, I turn the music off. But I still always have a playlist for each book. It’s usually a group of songs that remind me of a scene, or a certain character, or just have the tone that I’m going for. And while I’m working on the book, I will wear the playlist out. (Just not during writing hours.)
<em>If We Were a Movie,</em> despite its title, is almost more about music than it is about movies. My main character, Nate, is a talented musician on scholarship at NYU. Music is an intrical part of the plot, and hits home for me personally as I was a music major in college too. (For a while anyway…) The playlist I have for this book is closer to an actual movie soundtrack than just a random list of songs this time. (Very fitting.) Most of these songs are referenced in the book as well as that they simply remind
me of the story. As you read, feel free to listen along.
The book also has a movie playlist and you can watch along as well. As much as Nate is a music junkie like me, his love interest, Jordan, is a movie fanatic. (Like my Hollywood screenwriter/editor/motion graphics artist husband!) The book is all about comparing life to the movies, and is a play on all the classic romantic comedy tropes that we all love so much. There are dozens of movie references throughout the book. In fact, each chapter is titled after a different movie that has something to do with that chapter. I guarantee after the first couple of chapters you will be trying to guess what’s going to happen next based on the chapter headings! I’m not going to give you that list of movies right now, because it may spoil some of the surprises, but I promise it’s a fun list.
So, are you ready to listen to <em>If We Were a Movie</em>? Here it is in my personal playlist order: (Warning, this is my most eclectic playlist yet!) <br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>Summary: </b>(goodreads) </i></span><br />
<i>Sixteen-year-old Mara Westray has just lost her mother, and now, being shipped off to live with the father she doesn’t know is not how she imagined grieving. She’s already counting down the days until she turns eighteen and can leave the tiny island of Swans Landing.<br /><br />But from the moment she steps off the ferry, nothing is as ordinary as it looks. Whispers of a haunting song on the wind make her see impossible things, and she isn’t sure she can trust her judgment about what is real and what isn’t anymore. Maybe she can’t even trust her judgment about quiet Josh Canavan, whose way of speaking in riddles and half-truths only confuses her more, luring her deeper into the secrets hidden beneath the ocean’s surface.<br /><br />As she tries to unravel the events that led to her mom fleeing the island sixteen years ago, Mara finds that the biggest secret of all is only the beginning.<br /><br />Surfacing is the first book in the Swans Landing series.</i><div>
<i><br /></i>Usually, I am not one for "mermaid" tales. I don't like swimming in the ocean for some reason, so the thought of turning into something sea-bound frightens me. So I was reluctant to read this, but I was pleasantly surprised. <br />
<br />
For me, I just don't understand how, as is most of these paranormal books, no one tells the protagonist about his/her other persona/gifts/abilities. Like they aren't going to figure it out? They live between 2 forms of water... What are the odds that she (Mara) won't end up in shock from the transformation? But of course, she ends up putting clues together, and yup... realizes for herself. <br />
<br />
That being said, I still enjoyed this book for the most part. A lot of things fell into place for me early on so when the big reveals came at the end, I expected most of them. The world building was great and so was the writing. You could feel the tension between the humans and the "fin folk". <br />
<br />
I read this book via audiobook and audible. The Amanda Ronconi did a great job with the male and female voices adding to the depth of the book. Listening to books is the second best way to read if it is narrated by a good voice. This one didn't disappoint. <br />
<br />
The second book Submerging, is on audio now and I will probably be listening to that one as well. I have to see where all these great characters end up!

<br />
I was a bit disappointed by this read. Other books by Huntley Fitzpatrick have been so much more than the drama of "sleeping around". This one, I'm afraid, was just that. I got so freaking tired of the vague hints of what horrible thing Cass did to Gwen! I came so close to just chucking the whole thing because by the time I was 1/2 through the book, there still was no answer. I felt I had somehow missed it somewhere. So frustrating! <br />
Gwen had several flaws, like most of us. She seemed to give in to the what the crowd thought of her, living up to her reputation. I think a lot of young teens can relate to this situation. Doing whatever it takes to get noticed and hopefully accepted by the in-crowd. I realize Gwen was just trying to do better than her parents and with her father pressuring her to do so didn't help. I got very frustrated with her, but she seemed to redeem herself with how she ended up making good choices. <br />
Cass.. Oh Cass... I wanted him to just MOVE ON! Gwen didn't deserve him after what she did to him. He let her treat him poorly, he didn't stand up to tell her what really happened, didn't even offer any kind of explanation. So even though she did the worst thing possible, he still pursued her. <br />
This book covers some real issues, but I don't think they were made as important as they truly are. I found this read a very difficult one to get through. <br />
