Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a kickass heroine, a boy so hot he’ll make you shiver, and a falling-in-love story fit for the big screen. You’ll want to settle in and have the popcorn ready.

After Mariely Hinojosa and Cabot Wheeler both break up with their significant others at the same party, Mariely sees a way to get even with both of their exes. Everyone knows that the best way to get over a breakup is a hookup—a fake hookup, that is. Three weeks, all fun, no strings, and definitely no heartbreak at the end.

But somewhere between the sweet hand-holding and melt-your-mind kisses, their fake relationship starts to feel less like an act and more like the real thing…but Mariely’s a free-spirited girl from the other side of the tracks, and Cabot’s the hot trust-fund guy from the Hills.

They’d never work for real…

My Review

What a great light read! Sometimes I just crave a book with so much life, character, and just young love... and this was exactly that. Getting caught up in a book that brings so much hope, getting caught up in dreams, and a sweet romance can lighten any day. Shellee Roberts did a great job!

Mariely! What a beautiful name! It fit her perfectly too! Her character was different, but full of life and dreams. Her sense of style was spectacular to the point where I wanted a pencil skirt and heels too... and the red dress? PLEASE.... so perfect! So enough about her wardrobe, that was only part of what I loved about Mariely! She evolved beautifully from beginning to end. Taking chances, risks, and putting herself out there was difficult because she was so used to acting like someone else... someone safe. Only Cabot could bring her out of her safe zone.

Oh and Cabot? Yup... swooon! The guy who is like crazy hot, with the crazy-witch girlfriend? Don't they usually have one of those? But who could resist the artsy-painter-rich-kid-with-a-Porche, with the deep blue eyes and Daddy issues? Count me out! Just my type!

The idea of a fauxmance has been done before, but what guy wouldn't mind putting on that kind of performance?! Pretend to be in a relationship with a hot guy? At that age... you bet! I think I may have done that sort of thing once to get someone jealous when I was young, crazy and stupid!

So this was a really fun read for me. I read it in one sitting and was left wanting more! I look forward to the next installment of Mariely and Cabot!!

About the Author

There are three things (besides her family) that Shellee loves more than Netflix: Dr. Pepper, OTPs, and book boyfriends (I’m looking at you, Gilbert Blythe).

Shellee has been told that her life goal as a writer should be to win prestigious awards that will grant her literary immortality, but as an OG ‘shipper (like, seriously, Tad and Dixie--my first hardcore ship) all she really wants is to create two characters that people love so much they give them a cool mashup name.

Shellee spends her days living the dream with her family in Austin, Texas--and by living the dream she means waking up at the crack of dawn to go to work, chauffeur, walk dogs, do dishes, and fold laundry. At night she gets down to to real business, basking in the warm, blue glow of her computer screen and bringing the stories in her head to life on the page...or watching Veronica and Logan fan videos on YouTube till 2am.

Tomorrow she’s definitely going to kick that procrastination problem to the curb.

The Selection

The Selection by Kiera Cass
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary:  For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

How could you NOT fall in love with this cover? I was drawn to it immediately. Gorgeous dress, the crown..... and then I read the summary! I was a sucker for the first Bachelor reality series, but then thought it was sorta lame. But this, this is a chance to be a real Princess! I was a goner. The little girl in me couldn't resist it.

This storyline was so clever! Almost a Cinderella, rags to riches story with a dystopian-type background. I say ALMOST Cinderella because America Singer (really didn't care for the name, by the way) didn't want to be a part of all this, didn't want the Prince, the attention, and all that came with it... well, at first.

Prince Maxon (sawooon!) Really was all that AND a bag of chips in my opinion. He was very direct and to the point, not playing games. He was the only one who out of all the characters seems to be truly trustworthy. America, on the other hand, seemed like the typical teenage girl...a little whiny, dramatic, and taking huge risks. I did love the way she was herself, very indifferent with the competition, and didn't kiss up to the Prince. Aspen on the other hand... never really liked him even from the beginning, seemed to be too male chauvinistic for my liking.

The only thing that was really missing from this book, was more detail on the rebel attacks. Maybe Cass is waiting for the next book to throw all that in, but I wished there had been more of a hint to each rebel group.

Bring on book number two! I am ready for more Maxon BTW..LOVED his name!

A clean and fun book, if I had a teen daughter I would let her read it.

Legacy

Legacy (Legacy, #1)Legacy by Cayla Kluver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Summary:  I noticed his eyes. They were blue, sharp and intense. Despite the youthful glows of his suntanned face, his eyes were cold and unfriendly, suggesting he had great experience in the world and was now expecting the worst.
In her seventeenth year, Princess Alera of Hytanica faces one duty: to marry the man who will be king. But her father's choice of suitor fills her with despair.
When the palace guard captures and intruder—a boy her age with steel-blue eyes, hailing from her kingdom's greatest enemy—Alera is alarmed…and intrigued. But she could not have guessed that their clandestine meetings would unveil the dark legacy shadowing both their lands.
In this mystical world of court conspiracies and blood magic, loyalties will be tested. Courage won't be enough. And as the battle begins for everything Alera holds dear, love may be the downfall of a kingdom. ~

Alera who was quite stubborn, full of wit and spunk, fought against authority and her duty, like most 17-yr-olds. Once she decided she didn't like Steldor, that was it... nothing was going to change her mind. The only problem I had with the whole thing, was the lack of Narian's personality. Most of the time Alera spent with him he was vague, quiet, and not enough focus was on him long enough to establish a true bond... In my opinion. Even though Steldor really was an egotistical, selfish brute, I liked him. The way he and Alera bantered back and forth was fantastic! They were perfect for each other! Narian?... hmmmm, not so sure.

All the secondary characters had such detailed pasts. Every one of them had some kind of influence in the direction of the tale. The politics, war strategies, traditions, dress styles, social and economical details were not lacking. Brought all together it was formed into a wonderful tale which could almost be believable.

I was awed that someone so young could write something with this kind of vocabulary and style. Even though I read book #2 first, I fell right back into the characters. Hats off to Cayla Kluver, her beautiful writing and creating a world that any teen would love to live in.... Yes, even adults! I know I would!

Kindle Freebie

Reason to Breathe (The Breathing Series, #1)Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Summary:

"No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?"

He knows there’s something more to the girl sitting in the back of the class the moment he sees her. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and athletic – but she slips quietly through the crowded halls, trying not to exist. Determined to get to know the elusive girl, Evan soon discovers…

Emma Thomas is hiding a terrible secret.

Reason to Breathe is an electrifying page turner from start to finish, a unique tale of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and one girl’s fragile grasp of hope.

I found this book free on Kindle, but had no idea what I was getting into. I had a love/hate relationship with this book. Once I started it, I was torn between putting it down or wanting to see what happens. Just when I thought I couldn't take the abuse, and horrible language, it would stop giving it a new turn.
I fell for Emma, with her brash attitude, her social inabilities, but mostly, I am all about athletic girls. As her heart was opened up, her eyes were also opened to a whole world she was missing out on by being closed off to everyone. Once she see's what she has been missing, she is not wiling to give it up. Her heartbreaking home-life brought me chills and made me sick thinking how someone could be so cruel.
Evan, the knight in shining armor, chiseled his way into Emma's heart, breaking her tightly closed-off, mysterious shell only to find the secrets she desperately tries to hide.
It's a good love-story, but full of anxiety not knowing when the terror would begin again.

I gave it 3 stars because I wasn't completely in love with all of it. I am not one for the F bomb, but I realize in some of the scenes the words were important. I also don't do well with a lot of detailed violence, especially when dealing with real life issues. I also may be naive thinking teenagers are allowed this much freedom, with all the drinking, sex, and drugs right under parents noses.

Am I going to read #2? That I cannot answer yet, leaving the story hanging at such a vital point, it annoyed me, but I cannot lie... I still want to know what happens.

A Healing Heart by Melissa A. Hanson

A Healing Heart A Healing Heart by Melissa A. Hanson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary: On a bitter cold winter night Bailey Walsh’s family was killed in a traffic accident. Two years later as she lives with her aunt and uncle in Southern California, Bailey is still plagued by the nightmares of that terrible night. Everywhere around her are reminders of what she lost. Even her aunt, in a cruel twist of fate, is not just her mom’s sister, but her identical twin. Babysitting Riley, a spunky two-year old, is a sweet distraction and one constant light in her life. One day as she takes Riley to the park she meets Collin McKenna, a senior at her high school and her life is changed forever as he helps her find herself and realize her life is worth living. As the romance between them grows her broken heart begins to heal. However, still nagging in the back of her conscious is the fear that her new found happiness could come crashing down and she could lose everything she loves, yet again. Outside forces begin to tear them apart and Bailey must learn to trust in herself and realize that she is worthy of happiness. That sometimes love and healing comes in unexpected forms

Bailey, having lost her whole family, tries to keep on living with the deep pain of loss and survivors guilt. Helping her keep from deep despair is a little boy, Riley, show she babysits. Eileen, the boys mother, becomes an example of strength. Bailey has grown to love them dearly. Then... literally running into Collin turns out to be the best thing, in a long time, to happen to her.

Collin, having his own loss, focuses his life around his little sister, Lacey, making sure she has what she needs. When Bailey collides into his life, his world is never the same again. His thoughts are consumed by her. He cannot deny there is an immediate spark, a thread that pulls them together.

I am a sucker for books like this one, which are told from both sides of the story. Getting to hear inside their heads keep the plot rolling on an equal balance. I got a better feel for the characters, instead of one-sided judgement. I fell for Bailey and Collin, with their innocense, but with the weight of the world on their shoulders. I cried my eyes out during both the beautiful times and the hard times that life threw at them, so much like real life. Bailey blossoms into a beautiful, strong young woman, while Collin sees that sometimes loving means doing the hard thing.

If you are looking for a clean-read, full of life, love and romance, I would recommend this book. Being a debut novel for Melissa, I will definitely be looking for her next book!
