I received this book from NetGalley. The summary seemed so captivating describing Brazil in the future, which intrigued me.
I dove into this book expecting lots of vibrant colors, a world full of ancient history as well as futuristic technology. This part did not disappoint. Even though I was confused by a few words which I later figured out as I went on, the world Johnson created was beautiful. A place run by women. Then I hit a wall. The romance just took a weird turn, with insta-love and a different kind of love triangle that I just didn't care for.
To be honest, I didn't finish this book, so not sure this review is as complete as it could have been, but I just couldn't keep reading it.
I think this has to be one of my all time favorite Novellas (the .5's of series). I love Tahereh Mafi's writing so I decided I needed to add my 2 cents of this wonderful short story of Warner.
Oh Warner.. How I am so drawn to you. The bad boy of all bad boys! Broken, so broken and yet so unbelievably attractive. This book definitely changed my view on poor Warner. I read this before Unravel me so I went in with a whole new perspective since I finished Shatter Me.
Mafi is a genius.. Have I said that before? YES! Her talent far exceeds anything I have read in a long time. Her writing style is phenomenal, artistic, beautifully mastered. I can't say enough about it! Can you tell?
If you have read Shatter Me, this Novella is worth the quick read. It might change your whole idea of Warner!
“She is a soft, deadly creature. Kind and timid and terrifying. She's
completely out of control and has no idea what she's capable of. And
even though she hates me, I can't help but be fascinated by her. I'm
enchanted by her pretend-innocence; jealous, even, of the power she
wields so unwittingly. I want so much to be a part of her world. I want
to know what it's like to be in her mind, to feel what she feels. It
seems a tremendous weight to carry. And now she's out there, somewhere, unleashed on society. What a beautiful disaster.”

Tahereh Mafi,
Destroy Me
“That traitorous bastard. The idiot who thinks he's won himself a pretty
girl. He has no idea who she is. No idea what she'd about to become. And if he thinks he's even remotely suited to match her, he's even more of an idiot than I gave him credit for.”

Tahereh Mafi,

Juliette
has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people
with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.
She's
finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her
as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from
her lethal touch.
Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.
In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me,
Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and
what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between
her heart—and Adam's life.
Oh my oh my! Mafi's writing makes my heart and breathing speed up. I could read her words over and over and never get tired of them. Not to mention her creative mind. This book goes everywhere except where I expected it to go. Shocking twists and turns all throughout the book.
My only complaint was Juliets attitude in the beginning, which seemed to drag a little. She got lost in her self pity and doubt....But I was excited to get a little more Kenji. Loved his happy self.
There really isn't anymore I can say without spoiling, so I will just leave you some great quotes.
“Hope. It's like a drop of honey, a
field of tulips blooming in the springtime. It's a fresh rain, a
whispered promise, a cloudless sky, the perfect punctuation mark at the
end of a sentence. And it's the only thing in the world keeping me
afloat.” ― Tahereh Mafi, Unravel Me “He's
looking so deeply into my eyes that I'm surprised I haven't buckled
under the intensity and I realize then, right in this moment I realize
that everything about him is intense. Nothing about him is manageable or
easy to compartmentalize. He's too much. Everything about him is too
much. His emotions, his actions, his anger, his aggression. His love.” ― Tahereh Mafi, Unravel Me
Summary (by Goodreads): "There are only two
reasons a nonseer would see a spirit on St. Mark's Eve," Neeve said.
"Either you're his true love... or you killed him."
It is
freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year,
Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be
dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them - not until this year, when
a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is
Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby,
the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from
Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But
Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He has it
all - family money, good looks, devoted friends - but he's looking for
much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other
Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege
around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and
Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but
says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been
warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this
would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the
strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.
From
Maggie Stiefvater, the best-selling and acclaimed author of the Shiver
trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the
inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we've
never been before.
I listened to this book which Will Patton (actor) narrated.
WOW. Talk about information overload!! My head is still reeling and trying to capture everything that happened! I will be listening to this book again, and soon.
I was drawn into this immediately and I couldn't let go. Everything, every detail just kept coming and coming. A few times I went back and listened to a few parts when I had to quit listening, just to get my brain caught up again. Blue is such a weird name, I actually wrinkled my nose at it until I got to know her. That is when I felt it fit her. Most of the names of the Characters were so different and unique, which added so much more to their personalities. Of course we can't forget that Blue has "her Raven boys" whose personalities differ from night to day, but are all handsome and attractive in their own ways.
Maggie's writing is amazing. She is a genius when it comes to putting a story together, especially how she plots out each character and makes them so unique and part of the whole picture. She takes the supernatural world and makes it seem so normal, such an every day occurrence that I didn't even seem to notice it really couldn't happen. There are so many twists and turns, mysteries, lies, and shocking truths that unfold. I really enjoyed it. I am excited for the next installment.
Will Patton did a great job with the narration! I love it when famous actors take time to narrate books and Will did an excellent job, especially with the southern accents. I hope he narrates the next book as well!!
Warning: This book has some bad language including the F word. Not a book for young teens, in my opinion.
Know me better is a new thing I am trying hosted by I'm A Reader Not a Writer . She will post a few questions and I will answer them as best as I can.
I invite you to answer the questions as well! I would love to hear about you.

Top 5 songs on your playlist? Right now I really enjoy Locked out of Heaven by Bruno Mars, Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake feat. JayZ, Paralyzer by Finger Eleven, Dancing Away with My Heart by Lady Antebellum, Sin No Te Hubieras Ido by Mana.
How much time do you spend reading each week? Lets just say it's too much. I would say 3 to 4 hours total a day. That doesn't count the books I listen to while I am at work. I usually have a book going at home and one I listen to. Although I am making a vow to cut back on PURCHASING books... (guilty conscience).
What is the last thing you Googled? I am horrible at spelling, probably because I learned English grammar along with Spanish growing up so I get confused with rules.. lame excuse, right? So.. last thing I googled was how to spell shoveled.
Favorite places to travel? I love going back to my hometown in Mexico. It has been over 6 years since I have been, so I think it's time. I also enjoy going back east to Western New York and Washington DC area where my In-laws live.
What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day? READING...DUH!!

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?
This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted
Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel
emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an
inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has
always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness
within. It isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan
Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put
to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone
had warned Anna.
Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
I read this book via ebook last summer and enjoyed it. I had the chance to listen to the audio format and felt I had to add another star. I fell in love with this book even more!!
As I have stated before.. I am a HUGE SUCKER for bad-boys, especially ones with good intentions and Kaiden is that and a bag of chips! Who could possibly pass up a mouth-drooling Nephilim bad boy with an English accent? Not me!
Anna. I loved her even though she seemed to come off a little "preachy" at times, but she was sincere in her intentions. A lot of other YA Heroines come off a little bratty, but Anna truly seems genuine in her heart. Sure she a few pout-y moments, but most girls do at age 15. Her best friend Jay is pretty awesome. He keeps to the guy friend agenda and doesn't seem to have the I'm secretly in love with you going on.
Oh Kopano.. The large, mysterious, quiet, do-good-er. Sadly he was a little scarce in the book, but when he was there he was known. I enjoy a man who knows what he wants, doesn't play games and goes after it.
Higgins does a great job building characters, especially the secondary ones. I had no problem getting drawn into them almost as much as Anna and Kaiden. The next book cannot come soon enough!
For more Kaiden... be sure to catch these extras on Wendy Higgins Website
Disclaimer: This ARC copy was thankfully given to me by Netgalley and Kensington Publishing Corp.
Another exciting sequel in the Mythos Academy series. Estep once again, does not let me down for a second in book #4. She keeps the characters continually developing, growing and becoming strong. Poor Gwen, even though I wanted to just yell "are you freaking kidding me? Can't she have a break for a moment?", I also enjoy the thrill of the constant, fast-paced action.
There is more of Logan (Yumminess), Daphne, Carson and Oliver. Not as much as the other books because Gwen has a lot on her plate in this book trying to find proof of her innocence. We also meet Alexei, who I really didn't like at first and I still am not too sure of yet. I am hoping to see more of him in the next book.
The ending was just too much for me. Without spoiling anything too much, all I can say is... NOOOO!! I was hoping for Gwen and Logan to finally have some time to really get to know each other better and have some normalcy for a minute. I felt a little cheated there, but with that ending, I know I will be hanging on until the next part in the series!!!
The release date for Crimson Frost by Jennifer Estep is December 24th, 2012. You can order here Amazon.
